I am a descendent of Francois dit LaRose Deguire and Marie Colin. Their grandson, Andre (senior) Deguire was a farmer in Western Illinois along the Mississippi river and sometime about 1750 moved his family across the river and became the first settler of what would become Ste. Genievieve, Missouri. The family and the town flourished. In about 1799 the family divided and half moved a few miles inland to work the lead mines in Madison County. Members of the family who moved inland kept the name DeGuire but dropped the "dit LaRose." Those who stayed in Ste. G took Rose as their surname. There are still some persons with the name Rose in Ste. G today, I believe, but, alas, I can find only a scattered few DeGuires in the area. I am descended from the DeGuires in Madison County (they founded the village of St. Michaels. My great great grandfather, Francois Paul DeGuire moved his family to Fannin Co. Texas in 1846. Today, I know no one living relative with the name Deguire. My late grandmother was Mary Florence "Dollie" Deguire. I will be happy to email a genealogy report to anyone interested in this branch of the Deguire dit LaRose family. Horatio Paul McAfee
