I was wondering if anyone has any information or can direct me to someplace where I can find the history of the surname before Spanish emmigration? My grandfather's name was John Edward DeSoto and his father's name was Gerod DeSoto, both of upstate NY. His father's name was Octavio DeSoto, from my understanding he came to the US from Mexico and to Mexico from Spain. I would like to trace the Spanish roots as far back as possible. If anyone knows of any resources in Spanish or English please email me.
