Desmonds near Macroom

I wonder is there anyone with a good local knowledge of the Desmond Families around Macroom. I was always told that our family came from 'outside' of Macroom. I would love to find out which village and where they are buried.

The info I have is that Dan Desmond (great-great grandfather) had at least 4 children:
Denis b. 1846
Dan b. 1863
Mary b. ?
Ann b. ?

The four of them all emigrated to San Francisco. I have a GAA document from late 1890's where the undersigned are Dan Patrick Desmond (my great grandfather) and Patrick Desmond - cousin?

There is also a Mammie Casey on the marraige cert and I wonder if that is a relation.

Brother Denis stayed with a William Desmond b. 1845 when he first came over to San Francisco. William is listed as 'widowed' in the 1880 US census. This surely was a relation.

The story in our family is that Dan Pat was named after Dan Pat who was named after Dan Pat, etc.
The only place I find that name is Kilmurry & Clondrohid. The only other info I have is Dan played music (I still have his (broken) fiddle) and they bred horses, but looking at West Cork in the late 1800's, that was pretty common I'm sure!

I'm married and living in Ireland and my family back in SF are always at me to find out this info.

Any help?
