I am also descended from a Timothy Desmond from Schull, who would have been born around 1810. He immigrated before 1847 so I know it is not the same one, but like the Timothy you seek, mine was a carpenter. He worked as a ship's carpenter for a while and then was a boat builder when he got to Buffalo, New York. Family tradition says he came over with two brothers and landed in Boston. They had a boat building business but supposedly there was not enough business to support all three and they "picked straws" to determine who was leaving. Timothy left and came to Buffalo and married Ellen Horrigan from the Aughadown parish in Cork.

There were other Desmonds in Schull who were also carpenters. I think all the Desmonds in Schull were related, particularly since many appeared to be carpenters and that is a skill that would have been handed down in families.

In doing research, I found a Marie Desmond and children who, in 1894, were arriving in Boston to join husband P. Desmond who was living in Boston. They were from Schull, according to the ship's passenger logs. I would guess this is the Patrick Desmond who sponsored baptisms.

There are also Desmonds in NYC who were from Schull. They came over from 1850 to 1868. There was a Cornelius, John, Patrick, Timothy. A cousin, Michael Neigle (Nagle) also came over and settled nearby. According to the records of the New York Emigrant bank, Michael was the son of James Neigle and Kate Desmond. I think they were from the townland of Ballydivlin in West Schull. Guess what Michael's occupation was: ship's carpenter.

I don't know if this is helpful. The records are not complete enough to actually find the ties between all the Desmonds from Schull, although I am sure they are there. I would be interested in anything you have since I am accummulating as much information as I can on all the Schull Desmonds.
