Hello

Hello! My great-grandfather was Captain Thomas Desmond,of North Sydney N.S. He was captain of the Lothair among other ships belonging to the Archibald Shipping Co. He was married to Julia White(sic) of Sydney,N.S. and had two children - one son who attended St Francis Xavier(Tom?) University and a daughter, Bernadette Marie(b1886, d 1972), my grandmother, who married Thomas Gannon in North Sydney, N.S. about 1900. He was the son of Jeremiah Desmond of County Cork Ireland and brother of James(b.1845), Daniel, and Jeremiah. In retirement he became harbormaster in North Sydney. Captain John Parker, who wrote a book entitled "Sails of the Maritimes" told my mother, Anna Elizabeth Gannon, that Captain Desmond had a reputation for treating his men fairly, feeding them well and keeping a clean ship! My Mother and I would love to hear from anyone with information! Please email at the above address. Yours etc.
Margaret Desmond Thorp MacLellan
