Ménard Family Members Group - http://www.egroups.com/list/menard-family-members/ - set up like GENFORUM with postings (# 281 as of Dec 15, 1999) with Q’s and A’s. “DesLauriers”, a French name meaning “near the laurels” has three main branches. Some kept the Deslauriers name, but others are known as Cordeau, Legault or Ménard. These families all came to Quebec in the 1600s. It was common for them to drift down through the States. The first Legault to come to Canada was named Rock Legault dit Deslaurier in about 1630. He m. c1632 a Marie Hard. She had been kidnapped by the Hurons or Algonquin in the British Colonies and sold to the French in Montréal. She was adopted and baptised Catholic. In the records she is sometimes recorded with two names.
