DesLaurier Family Nova Scotia
Duke Snyder forwarded your letter of January 6, 2005 to me, since I have quite a bit of information on the Delorey family of Tracadie. My apologies for not having written sooner.I noticed your e-mail address on the web, so I thought I'd try to contact you this way.
Please let me know if you've received this.I have some information that I believe links your DesLauriers ancestors to the DesLauriers/Deloreys of Tracadie, Nova Scotia. You had said that your grandfather was Alphonse DesLaurier and that he had a brother who was mentally challenged.Well, I found the following obituary on the Internet:
DesLAURIER, Patrick Raymond - 90, St. Peter's, formerly of West Arichat,
Richmond Co., died October 4, 1999, in Richmond Villa. Born in West
Arichat, he was a son of the late Joseph and Regina (Forest) DesLaurier.
Surviving are sister, Alice, West Arichat; several nieces and nephews.
He was predecease by sisters, Evangeline, Mary; brothers, Raymond in
infancy, Edmond, Alphonse, Pierre. Visitation 2-4 p.m. today in Richmond
Villa, St. Peter's. Remains will be transferred to C.H. Boudreau Funeral
Home, Arichat, for visitation 7-9 p.m. today, 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Rev. Bruno Ruel officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home, Arichat.
Since it appears Patrick was never married, perhaps he is the brother that you'd heard about. If this sounds plausible, please write back and I will send you what I know about his ancestry
Ok, here's a brief rundown.Patrick DesLaurier's obituary said
he was the son of Joseph and Regina (Forest) DesLauriers. That
would actually be Pierre Joseph (his baptismal name, but he went
by the name Joseph) DesLauriers, b. 3 Apr 1880, probably at West
Arichat. He was married on 21 Aug 1899 at Immaculate Conception
Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, West Arichat, to Marie Eugenie
(aka Regina) Forest, b. 24 Nov 1882 at West Arichat, daughter
of Jeremiah (aka Remi) Forest and Marie Boudrot.
Pierre Joseph was the son of Edward DesLauriers & Julia DesRoches.
I will attach a report with more details such as who Pierre Joseph's
siblings and ancestors were. But one of the reasons it took me so
long was because I was trying to verify who Edward's parents were.
The records for Arichat and West Arichat (earlier known as Little Arichat
and Acadiaville) are sort of hit or miss.Much of what's available has
been posted on the Internet, but there are gaps due to fires at various
times in history.
The DesLauriers of Isle Madame are descended mainly from two
DesLauriers from Tracadie in Antigonish county. They are Charles
DesLauriers, who married Angelique Coste and Angelique Benoit,
and Jean Baptiste DesLauriers Jr., who married Charlotte Girouard
and Anastasie Doiron.
The problem was, I couldn't find a birth, marriage or death record
for Edward DesLauriers, which would list his parents names. But
after looking through baptismal records for his children and those
of two known sons of Jean Baptiste Jr., Emilien (aka Miller) and
Jean Baptiste (III) I feel reasonably sure that Edward is his son also,
as they were listed as godparents for each other's children.
There is an 1885 map of the area that shows where Edward resided
if you go to:

Find the village of Acadiaville, then look to the left to the thin little peninsula
that sort of juts into the harbor. There's a name that's sort of hard to read,
but it says E. Delorieay. If you don't see it right away, it's next to A. Fougere.
Most all the DesLauriers/Deloreys of Isle Madame were either ship captains or
fishermen. They seem to have settled on or near Janvrin's Island. There is
a modern map of the area that shows a Delorier Island in the place where
E. Delorieay is shown on the 1885 map, so I suppose it's named after him
or one of his kin.The map is at:
