HELP! According to every genealogy I've found, I don't exist! This last name of mine (ours?) is driving me nuts!

Last ancestor I have any information on is John (or Jerome) DeLawyer, or (Delaurier'?) in Jefferson County, NY in 1880 census. legend has it he emigrated from Canada
Possibly via Vermont.

I'm at a complete loss, please help if you can!
