I have tried to duplicate this letter exactly as it was written. The letter has no punctuation marks. Feb 20th 1901 Marvin DeShazo Dear child i will rite you a few lines we are all well at this time & hoping you the same Marvin i have no news to rite only peoples keeps marrying down here Ben Armstrong and Charite Pate was married last Wednesday night and miss Tully Grace and a Mr. Yorkie from Graceville marries tonight Marvin if you aim to stay up there i want you to rite for your church letter and put it in at christian grove Marvin remember the words i have so often said to you keep good company Marvin i dont reckon you think of me as often as i do you but if you will be a good boy and do rite i will try and be satisfied Marvin dont forget to go to preaching and singing dont forget the song of wandering child come home it seems to me sometimes i can almost hear you singing that song Ester is standing by me while i am writing she says she wishes she could see her dear brother Marvin she will send you a piece of her new dress i forgot to tell you we got your letter last Thursday and i was glad to get a letter from you i want you to rite as soon as you get this rite me a few lines once a month any how i will close for this thime rite soon as you get this your mother Ara DeShazo Susan Arabella Bush DeShazo was married to Jesse B. DeShazo. She died October of 1901. Their son James Marvin DeShazo is my great-grandfather. Enclosed in the letter was the small scrap of fabric from Ester's dress, but I do not have the envelope.
