Christine... Thank you for your input. I'm familiar with the practice with using both the mother and father's name since in the spanish culture it is also common practice... presuming of course that the "dit" is the other parental surname.
I'm very concerned with the constant mispellings I come across in the paperwork I've been working with. Duchene, Dechene and countless others. I found Pamela Roi. It's only because of freshman high school french that I know that Roi and Roy are pronounced the same. I don't know enough about Arthur Deschenes to know if he had a sister. His full given name was Joseph Arthur Deschenes. It's wonderful that I've also gotten emails about what Arthur's background may be. I have some of his background as well as some wonderful pictures of Arthur in his youth and old age.
It would be great to trace further back and I thank all who are able to help me do that.
