British Derricks to the USA

I have found three separate individuals who went to the USA in
the 19th century. One was Sarah Derrick, who went to Indiana in
1870, after marrying Joe Target. Joe went to work in the Indiana
coal mines and was killed in 1888. Sarah was born in 1842 at
Chilcompton, Somerset, a village between Wells and Bath.

Another migrant was Ellen Derrick, born 1890 at Ashgrove, about
six miles south of Bath. She had married Ernest Dimond in 1912,
and they ended up at Sterling, Whiteside, Illinois.

The third migrant also went to Illinois. He was John Derrick,
born 1851 at Wrington, a village south of Bristol. He went to
Island, Illinois. He had two sons: John Lester Derrick and
Clifford Derrick.

Sarah and Ellen were distantly related, I believe. All, I think,
derived from the same area - the Ubley/Blagdon part of the
northern Mendips where many Derricks originated from.

On my web page I have a picture of Ubley church and will have
one of Blagdon before long. The latter shows the pretty country
side in that area.
