Hi, I was sent this information the other day, not sure its of use to you or anyone else but if you wish to have the address of the person called Don, who emailed it to me let me know. Emma Maybery was born in Marshfield, Gloucestershire, England, on 22nd June 1844. She married George Derrick in St. Stephen's Church, Willunga, South Australia, on 1st May, 1862. The Derricks were from London. At the time of te 1841 census, John and Hannah Derrick were living on Mount Street, Mayfair. Their son, James Richard Derrick, born in 1800, had married rosina, second daughterof Jeremiah and Henrietta Levi, at St. George's Hanover Square on 13th May, 1827. All members of the Derrick family were christened or married in that fashionable church. As residents of Mayfair only were permitted to marry there, Googie Withers and John McCallum lodgedthe required number of nights before their wedding to qualify. Theodore Roosevelt and Benjamin Disraili were two of the many other celebrities to be married in St. George's. James and Rosina Derrick had ten children, but when the family came to Australia, the three eldest (John, Rosina and Emma), who were already married, chose to remain in London. With James, Anna, George, Lucy, Charles, Philip and Thomas, they arrived in South Australia on the "Lord Stanley" in 1851. The family settled inWillunga, South Australia, which was quire close to where the Mayberys were to live two years later. Of the Derricks who came to Australia, Anna a tailoress, married Job Maslen; George married Emma Maybery; Lucy became Mrs. Boyd; Charles married Margaret Maybery; Philip was un-married, and Thomas married Amelia Harbour. Unfortunatley I have not been able to link these into my family as yet, but I keep trying! Notify Administrator about this message?
