I odn't know what anyone else has been saying but no one knows the exact way it was spelled. Especially because when the Derricks first came to America the Widow Derrick came with her children on a ship called the Two Brothers which many Germans payed off by being slaves. When the Gremans had come to America most of their names were already spelled like they would sound in America. The widow Derrick was one of these. You can find out way more by reading "The Derrick Family." It's a book all about the Derrick Family. I f you would like to know more you can email me at haley2000@cheerful.com.
I hope this helps you.
