John O. (Owens) DePriest was the son of John Pitt DePriest of Rutherford Co., NC. He married Cynthia Crowder there on 23 Jul 1842 and departed shortly after that for AL. John Pitt DePriest married Elizabeth "Betty" Owens in Rutherford Co. on 3 Nov 1813. He was the son of William DePriest and his wife Esther. William fought in the Rev. War and received a pension for his service.
