Naomi DePriest is the daughter of William and Judith DePriest. I'm listing below some information on that family. William is the son of Robert DePriest (b c. 1660, d 1707-1711), a French Huguenot who immigrated to New Kent Co., VA, probably in the 1680s. William's mother was Elizabeth. She died a few days after Wm.'s birth.

WILLIAM DEPRIEST was born in St. Peters Parish, New Kent Co., VA 23 September 1689. William died 2 March 1737/38 in Manakintown, Goochland Co., Virginia, at 48 years of age.
He married Judith.
William DePriest and Judith unknown had the following children:

i. unknown DePriest.

ii. Randolph DePriest was born in Goochland Co., VA about 1723. Randolph died in NC. He married Mary Mims in Goochland Co., VA, 1751.

He was very active in anti-Bristish activities before the Revolution and was put to death by the crown. He married Tabitha Tony in VA, 6 April 1758. William is my ggggg grandfather.

iv. Naomi DePriest was born in Goochland Co., VA about 1729. She married John Salmon 6 June 1759. John died about 1790.

v. Mary DePriest was born in VA about 1731. She married George Sutherland (Sutherlin), III about 1755. George and Mary had both a grandson and a great grandson who were Defenders at the Battle of the Alamo. Their grandson, Dr. John Sutherland, was the physician for the garrison before Santa Anna's attack on the Alamo. At the time of the attack Col. Travis had sent John as a courier to seek reinforcements. He returned a few days after the Battle. His brother, George "Cinco" Sutherland V's son, William DePriest Sutherland, 18, died in the Battle of the Alamo. Many members of the Texas line of Sutherlands became prominent in founding the Republic of Texas and then the state. The best known contemporary member of the family is Elizabeth Sutherland Carpender, aka Liz Carpenter, press secretary for former first lady Lady Bird Johnson.

vi. John DePriest was born in Goochland Co., VA 1739. John died 13 January 1800 and is buried in St Luke's Church On Wye, Queen Anne's Co. Md. He married Elizabeth Rice in Goochland Co., VA, 6 June 1759.
