Shelly,
It's been quite some time since I worked on the early Illinois DePriests. (My interest of course, is my surname ancestor James DePriest b.1868 Unknown - d.1899 Lawrence Co., MO.)
I have one possibility for Allen's ancestry and it's pure SPECULATION at best.
The only DePriests that I've found in Illinois near the time frame are William & Rebecca Charity Casey DePriest of Jefferson Co., IL (their family is fairly well accounted for), and a Jeffery DePriest of Randolph / Edwards / Gallatin Counties, IL.
1810 Randolph County Census: Shawnee Town, p.26, Deprist, J.
1818 Edwards County: p.96, Deprest/Duprest, Jeffery
July 11, 1820 State/Colonial Census-Gallatin County: p.84
Jeffery Dupriest - Free white males 21 & upwards: 2
I have wondered if the above William and Jeffery were brothers, possible sons of Christian/Christopher DePriest of Rutherford Co., North Carolina.
If Allen was in fact born 1811 in Illinois, Jeffery is the most likely ancestor (father or grandfather).
Maybe worth checking into anyway.
Vicki
