Thanks Rob for backing me up, though there was not a sliver of doubt in my mind of course (laughing). I've seen the family gravestones all together, with my name everywhere, not the most reassuring feeling I must say. Before my Grandfather passed away, my wife and I had a boy, the first grandson for him, and he was quite interested in carrying on the same name. I actually owed him a great deal from early on, and we did name him O.R.D. V, which I do believe is a bit much, but for Grandfather, well... He passed away before meeting him, just as my Great Grandfather, Oren number one, passed away before meeting his son (before his birth.) The obituaries suggest that he, Oren number one, was fit as a fiddle one day, and on his death bed two weeks later, a testament to modern day antibiotics.

I believe your data is correct, though I haven't gone though it line by line in comparison. My question for everyone goes to the very early Depp's: By all accounts, Pierre Dieppe came from the area of Dieppe, France, probably as a French Huguenot, by way of England, to an English land grant in the Virginia area. The Huguenot's left Cardinal Richelieu's France (though he may have been dead by the time they left) in order to have religious and commercial freedom. The English provided it, albeit at the possible danger of living on the very edge of the frontier (wherein lies the earliest connection to native Americans for the Depp's, I suppose). The Huguenots shipped over in the late 1600's, and by 1700, they were in Virginia in numbers. By then, Pierre Dieppe surely had appeared here, when exactly, I don't know, though looking at various records, one could make a guess. My question is, when the name Peter Depp shows up, is this him, with the name changed, or is this his son or grandson? The lineage of the first few Depp's after Pierre aren't perfectly clear to me, and when he arrived isn't either. I believe a father and son fought in the Revolutionary War, but which two isn't exactly obvious to me.

Regards and thanks,

Rick
