Does the term Baresa mean from Bari?

My DePalma line is from Bitritto. My ancestor Maria Pentrelli died in Bitritto in 1818. It states that she is from Baresa. My Italian vocabulary is pretty limited but I seem to recall that Baresa or Barese is a term meaning a person from Bari. I would really appreciate some help with this! Thanks a lot! Diane
