Posted by: Sherry Sheridan Date: May 09, 2000 at 18:28:32
  of 2934

I visited the Sequoyah Regional Library in Canton (Cherokee County) Georgia, May 9, 2000 and wanted to share what I found with this forum:

source book: "Index to 1810 NC Census"
Denton, John, Rth, 367
Denton, Samuel, Hwd, 61

source book: "Cherokee Land Lottery 1832" GA, page 16
Denton, John, (capt'n?) Valleau's (district?), Chatham 7th District, 1st section (Union County)

source book: "Paulding County: Its People and Places" by WA Foster, Jr.
page 45 and 46, Slave Analysis 1860
name of slave owner: Samuel Denton
number of slaves, their genders, and ages
2 slaves: one 10-year-old male; and one 8-year-old female

page 34: early settlers: S. Denton

page 209: I. Denton (1870) teacher in Paulding County

page 178: 1865-1869 J.G. Denton, pastor of First Baptist Church of Dallas

page 185: (1865-1867) and (1869-1870) and (1871-1872) J.G. Denton, minister of Poplar Springs Bapt. Church
*note: Poplar Springs Church charter members in 1843 included Sammy and Jane Denton; Mr and Mrs. John Wigley.

page 189: Cross Roads Bapt Church of Christ (member of New Hope Bapt. Assoc.) J.G. Denton was a pastor.

page 165: Paulding County Election Sept 12, 1868, John Denton, democrat held no office, engaged in rebellion, tax collector? defaulted? (this was confusing)

I hope this can help someone.
