Martha O. DENTON, born abt 1800, VA;
married 13 April 1820, Greene Co, OH to William SCOTT, who was
also born in VA in 1785. William served in the War of 1812 (VA
or OH). They migrated to Delaware Co, IN in 1837 and William died there 15 June 1860.
William SCOTT is buried in the Bethel United Methodist churchyard
near Albany, Delaware Co, IN, next to William A. DENTON, who was also born in VA. William A. DENTON died Oct 3, 1870 at 71 years
of age. His wife, Mary DENTON, has her name inscribed on his tombstone also. She was born in KY and she died Feb 5, 1881 at 71 y 8m 12d
I believe this William A. DENTON was possibly a brother to Martha
O. (DENTON)SCOTT.
Family tradition is that this family was full-blooded American Indian; I don't know their Indian names or what tribe they descended from.
William and Martha had 5 children: Mariah (my gggrandmother),
Benjamin, James W., Priscilla and Sarah.
Mariah SCOTT, born about 1822, PA; married 11 Feb 1841, Ross Co, OH to Silas JONES, who was born abt 1818, State of Delaware.
Priscilla SCOTT, born abt 1834, OH
Sarah SCOTT, born abt 1840, IN
