Starting a genealogical tree for my family

Hello, My name is R. Rex Denton. My Father was Richard King Denton, and his father was Richard George Denton of Somerset, N.Y.
I have begun (this is the first overture!) to investigate the family's past history.
My father haad once told me that the American Denton ancestors are originally descended from Richard
Denton, who was a presbyterian minister that arrived in 1634 in the New Amsterdam colonies.
I am interested in the family history for both my kids and my grandmother, Barbara King Denton of Somerset
N.Y. Can anyone help me get started?
