The two sources were in conflict as to Elija and/or Elijah as well as for Catherine and Cathrine.

I know about the two you cite and considering the times and the events this couple may have moved west or perhaps returned to NC.

I am also aware of the various Elijah before 1860 and after 1870 shown with middle initials in some records.

Something else to consider is the dismal recording of the CHASTAIN as CHASTANE and CHASTEEN in some of the records. As you can see this hobby is not for the faint hearted.<g>

If I were you I would entertain the idea of contacting all of the folks who say they have CHASTAIN roots regardless the spelling in North Georgia. This backdoor approach just might get your foot in the door and back onto the right trail.

I cannot tell you how many times I opened the doors to those "brick walls" by turning my attention to the allied/collateral lines of the ancestors in their research.

You may want to contact the webmanagers of the county websites of Fannin, Gilmer, Gordon, Murray, Pickens, Towns, Union counties to see if they are aware of any volunteers who can help you search the local records.

If you do find someone to help do not overwhelm them with too much at one time. You do not want to run them off.<g>

It would be very interesting to see who the witnesses were at the wedding of Elija(h) and Cath(e)rine. That information may also be a key as to whom and who you are looking for.<g>
