So was his father before him.
Reading about the BURKETT family in the various south GA county histories AND the census listings you always encounter another spelling for the daughter.
If one is trying to follow the line and does not have your experience in these things...they may give up the search without knowing that you and I have already run the trail and have the knowledge that all of the spellings are for the same person.
You can imagine my surprise when Joshua is considered to be John in some of the posts.
