From my father's research: Tom Denton's widow, Barbara Burkett, became pregnant while her husband was at war. There is no record of him returning home when he enlisted in 1862 until his death in 1863. A son was born, William M.Denton, june 1864. His father, per family oral history, is a "jewish peddler". She also had another illegitimate son, John L. Denton, in addition to three daughters sired by Tom Denton prior to his death. Have more info but does not clear up the picture.
