I'm a descendent of Amy Jane Burge, daughter of Alexander Burge and Elizabeth Denton b 1800 Jefferson Co.,TN. (Elizabeth, Joseph and Charity Bailey, Jacob and Mary Claypool, Robert and Jane Moon) I found your research very interesting.
Recently I came across sites that say Mary Claypool's (first) husband was William Smith. (I've found genealogy.com CD #520 Hardy/Hampshire Co. Will/Probate records which indicate that James Claypool and Jane Byrd had a daughter named Mary Smith.) I've also seen sites with birth dates of 1737 for her and 1735 for her brother Joseph Claypool vs the 1735 that I often see for her. These sites also say that she is a descendent of Edward I of England (Denton, Claypool, Wingfield, Grousell, fitzAllen, De Bohun, Plantagenet families), but do not list Jacob Denton as Mary Claypool's 2nd husband.
Can you shed any light on this? Have you researched the actual sources/location for her 1758 marriage to Jacob Denton and do you have anything about her marriage to William Smith? William Smith witnessed many land transactions in Hardy, Hampshire counties including Claypool and Denton transactions-some seem to date after Mary's 1758 marriage date to Jacob Denton. I'd like to tie the sites with Jacob as her husband to the ones with William Smith as her husband together to make sure that we are talking about the same Mary Claypool. I'm just curious why most Denton sites wouldn't list the tie-in to Edward I, unless there is a gap somewhere. Hope you or someone can assist, or I'll have to trek down to Lost River next year.
