My information is not ironclad---it is either possible or probable. For what it's worth:
father: JOHN DENTON b. 7 May 1862? Brunswick Co., VA; d. c1850 in Cherokee Co., VA
mother: Hannah McCord, b. 1781 in Dist. of York, SC; d. after 1840; c1815-20 the family moved to Telfair Co., or Hancock Co., GA. This is from Abstracts of Rev. War Pensions I:953. John was a son of SAMUEL DENTON, wife Elizabeth (--). SAMUEL (your subject) was the eldest son, had brothers JAMES MCCORD and REUBEN, among other siblings. I have census data 1790 through 1850 on the family.
