Looking for additional info on the DENTON family of Otley, West Yorshire, England. I am decended from William Smith Denton who attended Oxford University and became a colonel in the British Army. He was hired by the U.S. government at the tme of the California Gold Rush to survey Baja Callifornia, Mexico for gold and silver mines. He set sail from England in 1849, eloped and married Elena Cano De Los Rios (of Spanish nobility) aboard his ship in La Paz, Mexico and then settled in San Diego California.
