I am trying to find information about my grandmother's family. Her name was Sarah Roxie Avo Denton, born in Clay County Tn. August 19, 1912. In her family Bible, she wrote that her father's name was "Dee" Denton and her mother's name was "Eliza Price". Another source said that her father's name was "Hiram Denton" who married "Eliza Price."
She moved with her parents to Fellville, ILL. When her parents died, she moved back to Jackson Co TN to live with her sister Lillie B. Denton who had recently married a William Fred Hix. She was raised by this sister. At 13, Sarah Avo Denton married Floyd Clarence Wood and lived in Jackson County TN for several years. They eventually moved their family to KY.
Handed down to me are Old pictures that have writing on the backs. One is a group shot, written on the back: "Aunt Mary Price, Aunt Susie Price, Ellis Denton (your brother) Aunt Sindy Cherry. Grandmother Ruthie Price, your grandmother and mine. She died at the age of 96. As you know Aunt Sindy was your mother's sister, Aunt "S???" uncle "Jabie" Prices wife ..they were your mothers brothers. On the front of the picture penciled around the photo "aunt mary, uncle Gibe Price's wife. This is your brother Ellis. I have another picture of a nice looking young man who the family says is Avo's brother. Written on the back: "Dear Sue C. I like you." I have another picture of a young couple. Written on the back is "Dora Denton and Sid Turner. I have a group picture of my grandmother with her sisters "Elsie Denton, Estill Denton, Sarah Avo Denton (she was known as Avo), and Iva Denton. Any information is appreciated.
