I have found out that Chapman Dent married Sarah Bailey in Kanawha County, WV on Jan. 29, 1875. Her mother, Maoma, was supposed to be the sister-in-law of Gen. Lee so Sarah may have been illegimate. A reference to Maoma or Sarah that has been found is in the 1860 census of Kanawha Co. (W)VA. They are listd as follows: Bailey Clay........farmer......55.......VA It is a family rumor that my husbands ggg-grandmother was an indian girl who was a sister-in-law of General Lee. Her name was Maoma Bailey, according to family tradition, she was called Omi and may have been down on any legal records as Naomi. Maoma married William Lee who was born abt. 1813 in VA. in November 1969 in Kanawha Co., WV. This was probably his second marriage and I am wondering if he is the same William Lee who was married to Mary in the 1850 & 1860 census. Maoma had a daughter named Sarah (Lee?) Bailey who was born 1854 in VA., who married Chapman Dent. Does anyone know who Sarah's natural father was? Sarah and Chapman Dent had 11 children. I know next to nothing about this side of the family and would be very excited to know more! Here are the names of the children of Sarah (Lee?) Bailey and Chapman Dent; Mae Oma, Walter, Stella, Evermont, Chap, Cleve, William, Mary, Edward, Earl and Fred. Another family story is that Lee Street, Charleston WV is named after this family. I also wonder which Gen. Lee the family rumor is about? Light Horse Harry or Robert E.?? If anybody has any info please e-mail me at loisjs5875@aol.com. I am desperate!!
