Dorcas' father was William Berkshire, of Cumberland on the Potomac, according to her daughter Emma. They moved to Monongalia when Dorcas was quite young. They had a plantation near John Dent's.
Is your Mahala's father the same John Adamson Berkshire on the LDS ancestral file? Because Emma Dent mentions stopping at 'Uncle Lazier's house' in Indiana. The John above had a daughter Mahala and a son William. William had a son Ralph Lazier Berkshire, but the file doesn't mention a Dorcas. Her birthdate would make her slightly older than the kids listed. Possibly she was from a previous marriage?
In another link, William above had a son Nelson Berkshire, and Dorcas and James Dent named a son Nelson Berkshire Dent.
Have you found where the name Anarah comes from? John Dent's wife Margaret Evan's brother Dudley Evans married Anarah Williams.John and Margaret then named a daughter Ann Arah Dent and the name repeats through the family.
If you find any more clues about the Dents or Berkshires, let me know. I'm also looking for Margaret Evans' mothers family (Rebecca Ann or Nancy Martin)
