Acting Coroner for said Dist., upon view of the body of Peter a Slave the property of John Dent of Columbia, SC then and there being dead, by the oaths of Gad Clark, W. T. Thomson, Isaac Davis, C. H. Giles, N. Legare, W. W. Greer, Jas. Gault, B. D. Culp, Mornas(?) Fant, T. McNally, Jas. Crawford, W. Eller, being a lawful jury of inquest, who being charged and sworn do say—John Fant being the jailor of the prisoners Says that on the evening of the 15th inst. dec’d was then alive and when he went up to the cell the next morning found him dead. Dec’d came to his death by causes unknown.
