William Dent was a witness on the Will of my ancestor, Joseph Brown of Bedford County, VA in 1795. William's parents were also witnesses. His father was John Dent and his mother, Sarah Brown.

The Browns and Dents moved from Amherst County to Bedford before the Revolution. The Dent family was for generations located mainly in Charles County, MD.

The wife of Joseph Brown was Elizabeth Dent, I believe. One of their sons was named Jesse Dent Brown. They would have married in Amherst or another county nearer MD.

John Dent and Joseph Brown signed the Oath of Allegiance to the Commonwealth of VA in Oct 1777 in Bedford County.
It is said that Peter Dent of Charles County, MD moved into VA ca 1755 and that he was the father of John Dent and his sister, Elizabeth Dent Brown.
