I am looking for information on my great-great grandfather, James Monroe Dent. He died July 3, 1934 in Douglas Georgia. He was a notable businessnman there and married Olive Mahala Paulk. They had four children.
We have very little information, however, as to J.M. Dent't past. Family oral history says that his mother was a woman named Josephine Dent (we do know that for sure). My great, great grandfather, James Monroe Dent, is said to be the bastard son of a Henry Gertman (Girtman). Josphine married a man named Ward. (Billy Ward, I think).
Seeing as there is no real way to prove who his father is, I would like to find out more about Josephine Dent and her family. Again, family oral legend has it that she was from a prominent family and became pregnant and sent away. I don't know how to really "prove" any of this, but does anyone have information on a Josephine Dent of Georgia. (perhaps married to a Ward)???? Was she anyone's child? My great-great-grandfather, J.M. Dent, was born in 1870. So I would assume she would have to at least be born in the 1850s or before. (Josephine Dent, b. abt. 1850 or earlier. Please Help.
