Dent/Bowen connections - 18th century

I am primarily searching the Bowen line but have run across several people (both men and women) whose middle name was Dent. I have only an indirect connection:

William Poston (1760-1823) m. Sarah Hamell and had a daughter named Catherine Dent Poston. Catherine was named for William's older sister who died at age 18 in childbirth. The sister, Catherine Poston, had married Hezekiah Dent. The sister of Catherine and William Poston, Judith Poston, married the Rev. Hatch Dent.

Catherine Dent Poston d/o William Poston and Sarah Hamell m. Arthur McMurray Bowen from whom my husband is a direct descendant. Apparently, there are some living Bowens who carry the Dent name as a middle name. While this is a Dent forum, I hope someone knows something about how the Dent name has been perpetuated as a middle name.

My guess is that one of the sons of Arthur McMurray Bowen and Catherine Dent Bowen is the originator of the custom. It does not appear to be the son who is my husband's ancestor: William Poston Bowen.

Thanks for your help or suggestions. I am posting this query on the Bowen forum as well.
