Ian,

The person I am researching is Robert Denyson (various spellings) born between 1611 and 1620 in England. He dies about 1676 in New-Ark on Pesayack (Now Newark, New Jersey). He is one of the original planters and settlers of Milford Connecticut (1638) and Newark, NJ (1655). He married twice: first wife unknown, second wife Esther Burwell of Hertfordshire, born in 1625.

I know he is not related to the decendants of Bishop John Dennison (Bishop of Shropshire) as that Denison line is well educated and well documented. My Robert Denyson cannot write (I presume) as he makes his "mark" on at least two historic documents. This leads me to believe he came to America young and seperate from his family.

So I am now looking in Dewsbury - Yorkshire for ancestors as it seems the area most common to the Denison name.

Right now I have found Robert Denison of Dewsbury born 1620 to John Denison (1585-?) and Anne Bayldon (1590-?).

Robert Denison's also pop up from the 1590's to 1620 in other parts of Yorkshire and a few in Lancashire, in LDS.

Any insight on where to go from here?

Scott Denison
