I couldn't determine his parents in census records. Since he passed away just a few years ago, ask family members if someone has a copy of his death certificate or a copy of his obituary. If his parents aren't listed on either one, you could order a copy of his death certificate yourself or a copy of his social security application which will give both his father's and mother's name. Here is a letter for ordering the SS application, if that is what you decide to do:

My understanding is that the fee is $27, when the Social Security number is provided or $29 if the Social Security number is unknown or incorrect. Enclosed is a check or money order for $___________, made payable to the Social Security Administration.
