Benjamin "Buzan" Dennis, Fayette County, AL
Benjamin and Elizabeth Dennis were my ggg grandparents. Their son, William (my gg grandfather), and his wife, Mary, lived next door at the time of the 1850 Fayette County, AL Census.William and Mary moved to Scott County, MS sometime before 1870, as James Dennis (presumably the oldest Dennis son) had already established a farm there. Both James and William's families stayed in the Lake/Lawrence, MS area for generations, and are buried there.Although we presumed a connection between James and William, it isnow becoming clear that James was William's older brother.James was born in Troup County, GA on January 6, 1822 on the border of Georgia and Alabama. I believe the rest of the children were born in Alabama. What makes this even more intriguing is that James' full name was James Richard Perry Dennis.I am wondering if any has ever checked into the possibility of Perry being Elizabeth's maiden name?I haven't seen any record that shows her maiden name, but if she came from Troup County, there may be a record in Georgia to confirm this.I have no information on the generation prior to Benjamin and Elizabeth (other than him being born in North Carolina). If you have any clues to the origins of Benjamin Dennis, I would love to hear from you.
