Cross-posted to DENNY forum.
Although I never got to meet Richard in person, he was a wealth of information and encouragement to me when I started in genealogy many years ago. We both have ancestors from Surry County, NC and I was fortunate enough to get some information from him as well as provide data for him since I only live about 60 miles from Dobson. He will surely be missed by all of us. This is the email I got from his family:

"With a heavy heart, we inform you that Richard F. Denney has passed away on July 20th, 2011 after a short battle with cancer. This message is being sent to all of his contacts. If you have any questions/concerns please e-mail Melissa Misenhimer (Granddaughter) at lulusoccer@gmail.com. His genealogy websites will no longer be updated but will remain for all to view."
