Hi Mark,

You may have seen that I scrapped everything and started again, once I finally get 1901 data I will send you a new and full tree, I fully accpet that WJD and his direct descendants including u did not travel BUT that does not mean they are not of romany blood. My own father was a romany, joined the army at 17 and eventually became factory owner, therefore none of his descenants are travellers but still romany.
So WJD dis similar, his brother Thomas P for instance, moved to Croydon, and cambridge area having one chils in the yard of a pub in cambridge IN A VAN. One of his kids Percy F also moved around and had a child by the name of ABSOLOM- romany or what.

One of the main reasons I started again was the fact that i realized that the basic facts was simply insufficient, movement patterns, name changes, occupations etc etc were vital. Labourer, publican, plasterer, horse dealer etc etc being good indicators and careful research is needed in libraries, gypsy collections, local records etc.

I was stunned to find that Romanys often had their children baptized at the SAME church for luck. I asumed a family that had kids all born in same parish were settled- how wrong I was.

Not very good on kent- is east ashford a tiny place near romany marshes it is often mentioned as a stopping place for romanys.

The grenadier guard interests me was this Thomas my info is now tht he was a Nurse at the Guards hospital.Have u ever found out WJD regiment, bet it was cavalry or he was in supply ie horses horses .

I would triple stress that travelling is not a prerequisite to be Roma, their ambition is always to settle, somewhere along the line the connection to Roma exsists and your facts
in no way alter this. Every bit of info I have is changeable if some one else has better proof( apart from direct family of course). Mind u even that was shaken by a Gail Dennard recently asking about my grandfather Frederick saying he was her grandfather too- unfortunately I scared her off and she never replied.

THe bottom line is of course u are correct about WJD, his father and his father etc but so am I .

Best Regards,

Brian
