Hi J

Thank you for your very full reply!

My line is through Thomas Splan (b 1841) m 1863 Elizabeth Weston (b 1844). Their son William (b 1869) m 1895 Clarinda Moulton (b 1871). William is brother to Thomas (1869), Ellen (b 1864), Elizabeth/Grace Elizabeth (b 1865), and Adeline (b 1877).

William and Clarinda had five daughters: Rita (b 1897), Sylvia/Sylva Irene (b 1900), Irena/Treva (b 1902), Elizabeth Clarenda (b 1904) and Ethel (b 1907).

Elizabeth m 1923 Thomas Allen Leader and they are my grandparents. Both Grandad and his sister did quite a bit of family history research in the 1940s and 50s, and it is in his writing that the Splans came originally from Denmark. Unfortunately he died in 1965, so no follow-up possible.

The information from Ontario BMD and various Censuses certainly say Ireland/Irish, but I just wondered if there was a nugget of truth in the Danish claim given that the Danes arrived in Dublin around 800CE and maintained relations for many years. 8-)

I appreciate your information as I wasn't sure if Samuel was related.

Thanks again -
