Hi Bjarne,
Thank you so much for your very prompt response. It does make sense that his name is different as the family story is that he jumped ship in Australia.
The information that I have is from the australian navy where he served on HMCS Victoria till 1877 (including the Maori wards in 1861) then joined HMVS Cerberus in 1877. Resigned in 1881 where he joined the Port Phillip Bay Water Police. He retired in 1902 and died in 1921.
Again thank you for the information, I am goig to have to try and find womeone to interpret it as unfortunately I only speak english.
