Peter Nelson died at his home west of Shennington February 8th 1911, of heart trouble. The deceased was born in Denmark ,February 4, 1844. He immigrated to America in 1873 settling in Kenosha County,Wisconsin where he lived til about 20 years ago when he came to Shennington. (Monroe
County,WI) He is survived by a wife and 9 children, 6 boys and 3 girls,viz:Christ, of Dickensen, N.Dakota, Charlie of Salem,WI, Peter of Burlington,WI, Julius,Peter and Robert living at the parental home. Mr. Carrie Peterson of Racine,WI. Mrs. Christine Wagensen of Camp Douglas,WI. and Mrs. Petrea Rasmussen of Salem,WI.
All of the above mentioned and most of their families were present at the funeral which was held at the Danish Lutheran Church at Shennington the Rev. J.C. Christensen pastor of the church having charge of the funeral which is said to have been one of the largest ever held in Shennington.
Mr. Nelson was always an active member of the Danish Society since its organization in this place, he having helped build the old church which was supplanted by the new one nearly five years ago. He was very active in public life, he served several terms as Town Chairman and also Town Treasurer. Those present at the funeral from away wer: Mr. Volberg Nelson of Warrens,WI,Mr. and Mrs. A. Jensen of Warrens, Daisy Hansen of Evanston, Ill. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Grovesteen, Tomah, Mr. Harry Rasmussen,Jacksonville (does not mention state for Jacksonville may have been from nearby town in Wisconsin)Source:"The Tomah Journal"1911
