Hi Pat: Thanks for responding to my e-mail. Caroline Denham was the daughter of David and Frances Lucas. Other children were: Rolen, Willoughby, Mildred, Fetney, Evaline, and Nancy. Nancy died at a very early age. Mildred was my great-great-great-grandmother. Mildred was born in VA as was Rolen, but all others were born in TN. David, I believe, was mulatto and I believe Frances was white. How-ever, I'm not certain. I do know that some of Mildred's children were listed as colored, mulatto and white, so I'm assuming that many of them were light enough to pass into the white world. Mildred did not and lived as a colored person in Lerna, IL, next to my grandmother, Caldonia Woodson-Robinson. Margaret Denham was Mildred's daughter and the mother of Caldonia. Mildred married Lunder Fugate in 1867, but to my knowledge had no children, but both had children prior to their marriage. Caroline was born about 1824 and had children before marriage, if she married at all. Four of them were: James, Susan, Henry and Edward. I believe Susan married a Hamilton Cadle who died in 1864. There is so much information relative to the Denhams, but Mildred's son, William H Denham lived in Mattoon, IL where I was born and later moved to MN where he died. Lerna, IL was only 6 miles east of Mattoon, where Mildred and my grandmother died. Margaret later married Clinton Woodson and they moved to KS, where they died. Hope this helps. I am willing to share any information I may have with you. Caryl Notify Administrator about this message?
