I was just reading on GenForum that someone asked if Leanna Denbo was part
Cherokee. I don't think so. But I'm not sure yet how to post messages there. You
might want to post this there, if possible.
Leanna Denbo's brother, Joseph Asbury Denbo, married second wife Letitia
Victoria Keys, who believed she was 1/2 Cherokee. Letitia's mother was Jane
(Jennie) Gunter, and father was Leroy Keys. Both of them were Cherokee. Jennie
was daughter of Edward Gunter and Elsie McCoy. Edward was son of John Gunter, a
Welshman, and Catherine, 100% Cherokee. Catherine was daughter of Ghigoneli and
Chief Bushyhead, Ghigoneli was daughter of Ghigoneli, and that Ghigoneli was
daughter of Oolootsa. See Old Cherokee families by Emmet Star, pp. 366, 367,
368, 436.
Elsie McCoy was daughter of George McCoy, wife unknown. George McCoy was son of
William McCoy and Rosanna Welch. Rosanna Welch was daughter of George Washington
Welch and Margaret Jones. George Washington Welch was son of David Welch and
Elizabeth McSwain. Elizabeth McSwain was daughter of Nannie Downing. Nannie
Downing was daughter of Major Downing. All of this is in the book Old Cherokee
Families, pp. 335, 339, 350, 368. Nannie Downing was Cherokee.
Leroy Keys was son of Isaac Keys (from Ireland) and Elizabeth Riley. Elizabeth
Riley was daughter of Samuel Riley and Gulustiyu. Gulustiyu was daughter of
Chief Chugitague Doublehead and Creat Priber. Chugitague Doublehead was son of
Willenawaugh Great Eagle. Creat Priber was daughter of Christian Gottlieb

Letitia Victoria Keys and Joseph Asbury Denbo were my great grandparents. Robert
Leroy Denbo and Edith Madge Brown my grandparents, John Bernard Fornasero and
Elouise Cleveland Denbo my parents.

Leanna Denbo Atkins was the great great grandmother of Stan Hodges and is not of Cherokee descent as far as I know.
