My ggg grandfather was Dempsey McCollums (or Collums). He may have been born or just lived in Pendleton Dist. SC He had a son born there in 1820.Thus Dempsey would have been born in the late 18th century.
Dempsey was almost certainly a family name. Also I have learned there was a Cornellus Demsey in Union Co.SC in 1790. Interesting as Dempsey McCollums named his child Henry Cornelius.
Any SC Dempseys know of a McCollums or Collums connection.
