John dempsey and rachel (Solomon) demspey had about twelve children .
My great, great, grandfather was his son
mark Dempsey born 1812 in Logan, virginia (now known as West Vriginia
After his father's daeth in 1830, He taught school for a while then went to santa Fe
Mexico (now known as New Mexico and
traded with the mexicans and Navajo indians for two years. he later bought land in what was then known as part of lawrence county, kentucky in 1850 from the chapmans. he married Lucinda Alley
in 1852. his proprtty later became part of the newly formed martin county, kentucky in 1870 and he was the first county superintendent. I am descended from his son Lewis dempsey and granddaughter
hazel dempsey This is where the surname ends with us because Lewis dempsey had four daughters no sons
Chapmans
