DEMPSEY,"Lida" Connection-KS/MO

"Lida" DEMPSEY m a Job/Jacob GROSS. Would be my ggf. Their son, GEORGE WASHINGTON GROSS was their son, my gf. George ran away from home very early. Only info on "Lida" and Job/Jacob, was that they were at least for a time, located in Newton, Harvey County, Kansas, and possibly later, in Missouri, where a letter came from Job/Jacob GROSS, which George refused to acknowledge. George was supposedly b in KS. When George was in the hospital (where he eventually died) in Fresno, CA, the info given for the death certificate was that his mother was "Lida" DEMPSEY, from Scotland or Ireland. George used to brag that JACK DEMPSEY, the prize fighter, was "his cousin." (Would have been "Lida's" family, of course, and not his). I have been unable to make any kind of connection. "Lida" is probably an aka for Elizabeth, or something like that.

Do you have any information that could connect "Lida" DEMPSEY anywhere? Any information would be appreciated. To date, I have been unable to pin down anything. Since George GROSS claimed to have come from a huge of family of 15 or so children, around Newton, Harvey, KS, I wrote to all the GROSS' in the phone directory in that area, hoping to connect with at least one of those, but no luck. This has been some time ago, and I just got on the Internet, and will try this way!

Thank you so much for checking.

Joyce Rogers
