Okay, guys, I goofed. Rachel Solomon Dempsey's father was born and apparently died in Pennsylvania. There is a notation of a synagogue in Philadelphia. Theother Joseph Solomon (also Jewish) was from South Carolina and WAS killed at the Battle of Beaufort. I'm thinking that the Joseph Jenkins family who "took in" little Rachel and Mary left PA for Virginia (West Virginia, now) because Joseph's synagogue didn't like the idea of those little girls being raised as Christians. I find no record of Mary at all. The girls' mother was a "Miller" or perhaps "Mueller" and may or may not have been Jewish. Any clues?
