On further study of the record I will attempt to correct previous post. Will not present that Jack Dempsey was not born in Colorado.

Believe that the Dempsey child that Granny Vance took care of was Hiram son of Joseph Harrison and Sara Ann Baisden.

He was born February 23, 1888 and my grandfather Jefferson Davis Vance was born February 2, 1889 in Lenore (Pigeon Creek?) West Virginia.

This Hiram was Jack"Manassa Mauler"Dempsey's first cousin.

Sorry about the ledgend going a little stray. Guess everone in the early 20th century wanted their 15 minutes as well.

Also, Abner Vance Sr was Jack Dempsey's great great grandfather through Joseph and Alena Vance d/o Abner Sr.

Abner was my fourth great grandfather.

Cynthia Dempsey wife of Washington Vance was not a decsendant of Abner.

Still makes the great fighter my third cousin twice removed.

Thank you for your indulgences.
