There was only one Dempsey family originally. I can only trace my line back to the late 1700s in Bandon, Cork. A local historian there told me that my branch followed O'Neill south to Kinsale about 1600. The Irish were defeated and my Dempseys stayed in Cork.
Besides Lea the Dempseys held the Rock of Dunamase which you can find in the encyclopedia. I have photos of both. Another castle was Geashill. I wish I had a photo of it. My camera was defective.
Most of the others are in bad shape:
Ballykeane
Raheen
Kilcooney
Clonygowan
Tenechelly
Ballybritas
Morett castle
Coolbanaher (spelling?)
Shane
